McClain Trailers offers a wide range of models to accommodate various boat weights. Our aluminum boat trailers start with the single axle series, offering a gross capacity of up to 5,200 lbs. Our tandem axle trailers have a gross capacity up to 14,000 lbs, and our triple axle trailers have a gross capacity of up to 21,000 lbs. Our quad-4 axle trailers feature a gross capacity of 28,000 lbs. We also offer a gooseneck upgrade for most trailer models.

The below example is how to determine gross weight. This is for teaching purposes only. Please refer to your boat owner’s manual for info regarding your proper weights.

3000lbs for Boat.

500lbs For Boat Motor.

400lbs for Fuel. (50-Gallon tank. 7lbs per gallon).

320lbs for water. (40 Gallon tank. 8lbs per gallon).

Total of weights above 4,220lbs multiplied by 1.15 (for miscellaneous gear)=4,853lbs.

Once you have the total weight of your boat the last step is to add the weight of the trailer. This will give you a gross weight.

what is gross?

The term “gross” refers to the total weight capacity that the trailer can handle, including the weight of the boat and anything else placed on the trailer. “Gross capacity” means the maximum weight the trailer can safely carry, so in this case, it can support up to 5,200 pounds in total (the weight of the boat and any additional load).
